The Left’s Doomsday Obsession Explained

I like post-apocalyptic entertainment as much as the next guy, maybe more. But Franzen seems to be a true believer.

Jonathan Franzen is not wearing a tattered bathrobe and standing on a street corner with a wild look in his eye and sign reading, “THE END IS NEAR,” in his hand. Nope. He’s writing for The New Yorker. He has a message. The bad news is: The climate apocalypse is unavoidable. The other bad news is: We still need to confiscate wealth, destroy our infrastructure, abandon nationalism to globalism, disarm ourselves, and slavishly believe whatever our media masters tell us, while paying international reparations for our success. Yes. Really.

Let’s have a look at sage wisdom, New Yorker style.

“The evil of the Republican Party’s position on climate science is well known, but denial is entrenched in progressive politics, too, or at least in its rhetoric.”

Franzen believes the Left is in denial about how bad everything is. Yes. Really. But but but the Republicans are, like, eeevil. It’s so obvious it hardly needs mentioning.

But he does it anyway because it feels good, and there might be a few people on the Left that still need convincing.

“Unlike the political right, the left prides itself on listening to climate scientists, who do indeed allow that catastrophe is theoretically avertable.”

Franzen believes the right is anti-science.

I wonder if he would listen to scientists who find anthropogenic climate change to be hokum?

“New research, described last month in Scientific American, demonstrates that climate scientists, far from exaggerating the threat of climate change, have underestimated its pace and severity.”

Franzen believes climate change is EVEN WORSE THAN WE PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT!!!

“The first condition is that every one of the world’s major polluting countries institute draconian conservation measures, shut down much of its energy and transportation infrastructure, and completely retool its economy.”

Fellow normies, when a person longs for draconian action… that is not a good sign. Franzen doesn’t mention exactly what measures should be in place. Feel free to speculate. Imagine what enforcement would look like. Rationing? Criminalization? A Green Gestapo? Reeducation?

Franzen believes we must SHUT DOWN much of our energy infrastructure, to have even a theoretical chance to avert the climate apocalypse. I notice he is espousing his views on a platform that requires… energy.

Furthermore, Franzen believes we must SHUT DOWN much of our transportation infrastructure. With the transportation infrastructure mostly shut down, who do you think will get to use it? Normies, or the elites?

“To stay within that allowance, a top-down intervention needs to happen not only in every country but throughout every country. Making New York City a green utopia will not avail if Texans keep pumping oil and driving pickup trucks.”

Intervention. By whom do you suppose? The federal government? Or maybe an EU-style global organization beyond such petty concerns as the voters?

Stop for a moment. Picture New York City. What comes to mind? A future Green Utopia? Didn’t think so, but Franzen imagines of course it would be easy to make New York City a paradise. After all, that’s where all of the good people live. Naturally, backwards areas, like Texas, would need an intervention of UN peace-keeping troops to enforce common sense compliance and conformity… for the greater good.

“Vast sums of government money must be spent without wasting it and without lining the wrong pockets.”

Has the government *ever* handled vast sums of money without wasting it and lining the wrong pockets? Ever?!?

“Finally, overwhelming numbers of human beings, including millions of government-hating Americans, need to accept high taxes and severe curtailment of their familiar life styles without revolting.”

Classic Lefthole: The citizens must pay more money and practice austerity, while the government spends vast sums… efficiently and without corruption… hahahahahahahahahaha! Yes, he really wrote that, and it’s not satire or parody!

“They must accept the reality of climate change and have faith in the extreme measures taken to combat it.”

No thanks, Franzen. I have a religion, and I don’t feel like paying to be indoctrinated into yours.

“They can’t dismiss news they dislike as fake.”

I’ll bet I could find articles that undermine his climate apocalypse prophecy. I’m pretty sure he would regard them a fake.

“They have to set aside nationalism and class and racial resentments.”

Who does Franzen think promotes class and racial resentments? The culprits are people just like him!

“They have to make sacrifices for distant threatened nations and distant future generations.”

Mister and Missus Middle America, Franzen believes it’s time *you* paid your fair share to distant, threatened nations. If Whatever-stan is a garbage dump of poverty, violence, and corruption, *you* need to pay up!

“They have to be permanently terrified by hotter summers and more frequent natural disasters, rather than just getting used to them. Every day, instead of thinking about breakfast, they have to think about death.”

Remember when Leftholes pretended the Republicans were the party of fear? They were full of crap, but at least they pretended. Franzen advocates for overwhelming numbers of people to live in a state of perpetual terror with ever present thoughts of death. What kind of miserable, totalitarian turd does that? Mental health specialists, medical specialists, does Franzen’s ideal sound healthy? Or does it sound like he needs intensive counseling, and possibly medication?

“The most terrifying thing about climate change is the speed at which it’s advancing, the almost monthly shattering of temperature records.”

Scientists, whom we MUST believe because science, at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies said the average global temperature on Earth increased by approximately 1.4° Fahrenheit since 1880. So it rose, on average, a terrifying 0.010145° F per year for 138 years. Quick, let’s start converting our dead into Soylent Green.

“In fact, it would be worth pursuing even if it had no effect at all.”

No. It wouldn’t.

“Every billion dollars spent on high-speed trains, which may or may not be suitable for North America, is a billion not banked for disaster preparedness, reparations to inundated countries, or future humanitarian relief.”

There it is. Reparations! Ding-ding-ding! Listen up, eeeevil westerners. It’s time to confiscate your wealth and give it to people, in other countries, who didn’t earn it. You know, to save the world from global warming. Have you ever noticed the Left believes that nothing is ever the fault of anyone except the citizens of the west? Weird hunh?

“As a bonus, many low-tech conservation actions (restoring forests, preserving grasslands, eating less meat) can reduce our carbon footprint as effectively as massive industrial changes.”

Eat less meat? No wonder he wants intervention in Texas.

“But the impending catastrophe heightens the urgency of almost any world-improving action. In times of increasing chaos, people seek protection in tribalism and armed force, rather than in the rule of law, and our best defense against this kind of dystopia is to maintain functioning democracies, functioning legal systems, functioning communities.”

So, Franzen believes destruction of energy infrastructure, destruction of transportation infrastructure, drastically higher taxes, drastically lower standard of living, and massive government expansion will lead to functioning democracies and functioning communities?

“In this respect, any movement toward a more just and civil society can now be considered a meaningful climate action.”

Social justice is now climate action.

“Securing fair elections is a climate action.”

By “fair” I doubt he means passing and enforcing strong voter ID laws to prevent voter fraud and intervention by non-citizens.

“Combatting extreme wealth inequality is a climate action.”

Marxism is now climate action.

“Shutting down the hate machines on social media is a climate action.”

Silencing dissent is now climate action.

“Instituting humane immigration policy,…”

Open borders is now climate action.

“… advocating for racial and gender equality,…”

Hating white people and men is now climate action.

“… promoting respect for laws and their enforcement,…”

Can you convince Antifa  and Black Lives Matter?

“… supporting a free and independent press,…”

Mindlessly agreeing with Democrat-controlled media is now climate action.

“… ridding the country of assault weapons—these are all meaningful climate actions.”

Eroding the natural right to self-defense is now climate action.

This is the Left. They are delusional and devout in their beliefs. And they want to control your life. The world would be better off it Franzen and his ilk were quarantined to a set of man-made islands in international waters. What do I know? I’m Justa Gaibroh.
