Roseanne Barr and ‘The Planet of the Selective Outrage’

Roseanne Barr made a joke about Valerie Jarrett. It wasn’t very nice. Shocking, right?

Ms. Barr later apologized for her joke. That was the probably the right thing to do after making an insulting joke about someone. Still, it wasn’t enough to stop ABC from cancelling her show within hours of what it considered her “repugnant” joke. Hours. Not months. Not weeks. Not days. Hours.

Consider how much time (and therefore money) must have been put into contract negotiations, coordinating writers, producers, directors, camera men, best boys, key grips, craft services, graphic arts, legal teams, marketing teams, scheduling, focus groups, branding, casting, staffing, costuming, set design, and a jillion other positions and teams.

Then, after one joke, BLAM! That’s it! Throw it all away! Wow. That must have been a super duper mega serious offense, right? There are some things you just can’t say, right? They cross a line, right?

Oh, hey, what a lovely picture. Who could possibly turn nasty about that?

Samantha Bee, that’s who. The so-called comedian said, “You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices you feckless c**t!”

That was shown on Twitter at 10:57 pm yesterday, May 30, 2018. Apparently, it does not violate their community standards. Several hours have now passed. Yeah.

Apparently, someone convinced her to pretend to apologize, but don’t hold your breath waiting for TBS to cancel Bee’s show, Full Frontal. You see it is okay for Liberals to be grossly insulting, to indulge in planned and approved profane rants. They get a pass. In fact, if they make blatantly offensive remarks against conservatives, they are lauded for their bravery in, “…speaking truth to power.” The Left circles the wagons and tells everybody, “It’s just a joke, everybody. Lighten up!” or “Well, it may have been in poor taste, but it’s a comedian’s job to push boundaries (as long as the comedian isn’t Conservative and the butt of the joke isn’t Liberal or some protected identity group).”

Does anybody believe, for one second, that such a joke could have been directed at Obama’s daughters? Any person who leveled the exact same joke at the Divine O (a-thousand-bundled-donations-be-upon-him) or at his family would have been excommunicated from the body of the Liberal faithful.

So, the next time some Liberal accuses anyone of sexism, demand to see their social media posts calling for the head of Samantha Bee. Insist on seeing it. Anyone can say, “Well I was upset by that too!” Make them prove it. The internet is forever. Don’t accept the standard, “Two wrongs don’t make a right!” or, “You’re just trying to deflect!” The simple retort is, “Prove me wrong. Show me you have ever called out any Liberal for an offensive joke against any Conservative. I’ll wait.”
